Racing since 1877, the annual Walgett Races meet hosted by the Walgett Jockey Club was first named The P.J. O'Brien Memorial Race Day in 2005 to honour the late Paddy O'Brien. Paddy's three sons, Michael, Dennis and Jim, thought it fitting to celebrate their father
for his contribution toward the
success of racing in Walgett.
