How long have you been coming to the Walgett Races?
Since 1970s went there as a stable hand.
What’s your favourite race day memory?
Out of all the meetings I’ve have been to, the best memory is of Zoucan Toucan on the 17th of June 2023. It won the 1400m and the owners were majority from Walgett.
What makes the Walgett Races special?
Atmosphere, the social aspect and the good racing. Every year the committee go above and beyond in hospitality.
Best horse you’ve ever seen race here?
Willdell - Jane and Jo Willis.
Whats the best part of being a trainer?
The love of horses.
How do you pick a good horse to back on race day?
I don’t punt - Chris Troy took all my money back in the 90’s.
What does race day mean to the community?
It’s the biggest social get together of the year; it brings everyone together. They come wide and far for just a function. Attracting the young and old from all walks of life.
What makes country racing better than city racing?
I can win a country race but never had a good enough horse to go to the city.
