Why are the Walgett Races the best day out west?
The Walgett Races are the best out west because the people are friendly the horses are exciting to watch & there is always a great crowd & atmosphere.
How long have you been coming to the Walgett Races?
I have been attending the Walgett Races for as long as I can remember. Family & friends have always been owners, trainers, jockeys, bookmakers & punters.
What’s your favourite race day memory?
My best race day memories are of Melbourne Cup Day when the whole town would shut down & go to the races.
Best horse you’ve ever seen race here?
I have two favourite winners at Walgett Races; local horses Hot & Handy and Betty’s Gift who both also won in Sydney.
Best fashion you’ve seen at the races?
Walgett fashions on the field are of a very high standard. I love to see what fashion icons Jan & Jill are wearing. Vintage classic is my favourite style.
What’s the secret to a winning bet?
Bet on horses with the fastest times from previous races.
What makes country racing better than city racing?
Country racing has a more personal social vibe than city racing. There are always familiar faces & friends to catch up with. This applies right cross the West.
Why should people travel to Walgett for the races?
Walgett Races are a fun filled day for our community with activities for all family members. Food & drinks are readily available. Something for everyone. The new grandstand is a great spot to watch the horses.
Heels or boots for race day?
Heels definitely over boots.
Champagne or beer?
Water is my preferred drink & I might have the occasional Coke.
Favourite race day song?
Horses.
